Game Controllers

This is a feature of Windows 98 that you can assume will keep evolving as it did with Windows 95, because it tends to take its settings and options from Direct X. As DirectX 5 ships with Windows 98 you will have the latest options, but these are likely to be upgraded again with Direct X 6. Game Controllers is a Control Panel that will look different depending on the type of joystick/controller you have attached and in most cases other than the default for the unbranded joysticks, will have a host of options to allow you to configure your joystick to suit you. It allows you, for example, to choose which buttons are used as Fire1 and which are Fire2, and calibrates Analog joysticks so you can define different degrees of turns. This sort of feature is used in games like racing simulations or flight simulations for varying how steep a turn you are performing.
